Thomas Paine - Flaming Hypocrite

Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" contains little if any common sense. What it does contain are self-defeating arguments and flaming hypocricy. After getting through section 1 and half of section 2 I had to stop to deconstruct Paine before going mad.

Paine wrote "Common Sense" like a sermon, quoting the Bible in an attempt to win people over to his side of the argument. This is beyond ironic as Paine believed the Bible was a book of fairy stories and that Jesus was created from a Roman sun god as a political move by the Popes to gain control of the ignorant masses.

Someone PLEASE tell me how Common Sense became a best seller in its time and why Paine is a clut icon for the political right?
